Welcome to Episode 4 of the Ω Powerband Podcast - a podcast dedicated to rock climbing in Aotearoa New Zealand.
In this episode, I speak with climber, bike-racer and doctor philosophiae, Peter Allison.
This is actually a re-interview after the first interview was ruined by my complete ineptitude at operating audio recording equipment in an open-air setting. What a loser.
Our second conversation focuses on a big year in Pete's climbing life: 2009. In that year, Pete found himself living and working in Wanaka but travelling almost every weekend back to Canterbury to climb on the boulders in Castle Hill basin. One climb in particular became the object of his ambition: Trifecta Middle. An unrated problem first climbed by Chris Sharma, it was assumed to be around V13 and, whatever the grade, was probably the hardest climb in Aotearoa at that time and had sat unrepeated for many years. Pete decided he was going to climb it, a decision that had unexpected consequences.
But don't worry, we don't just talk about bouldering. We also talk about cars, helicopters and motorbikes. What more could you ask for?
Here's a link to a photo of Pete that I mention in the conversation.
